This is a beautifully shaped wooden box, made of some darker hard wood, possibly oak or something more exotic. The sides are curved and has a rounded lid. on three sides there are inlays I think are metal, the legends of the sailing boats are impressed so you can feel them when you run your hand over them. The measurements are very close to 35 cm high 32 cm across the base and approx 22 cm width across the base The insides are lined with a red velvet like material. Not sure what it was used for but with side handles I would hazard a guess at possibly a traveller\'s box to keep fine silver and valuables in? The lid catch works but will need attending to. No idea of age
