Product DescriptionCute as a button...sweet as nana\'s cottage...these cottage prints that came out of the 1930\'s were indicative of a softness in society...a trend of heart warming...of course anyone with cold hearts could never understand the vibe of cottage and the affects on the heart...my goodness it is a powerful thing...and designers knew it...and textile manufacturers were beaming at the high speed machine age mass production that produced these cottage darlings all around america...some found at the local Five n Dime and others more exclusive to higher end decorators and textile showrooms catering to the more wealthy who were surviving the depression much better than the lower classes who were suffering the worst of the depression...a bit like the rich singing cherry songs in their life boats as they watched the Titanic sink...the country always needed a distraction...and what better way than to create soft palettes of colors and patterns that are soul sweeping...heart warming and a way of ignoring the bleak realities of the rest of the humble country...as I lovingly sorted through many a estate sale of old turn of the century mansions...draperies like these were a dime a dozen...usually paired with a coordinating floral and stripe wallpaper and thick tufted white chenille spreads on iron beds...the Jersey Shore was NOT what the shows depict...rather glorious beachfront mansions with little girls bedrooms and ladies tea rooms staged inside the turrets...bedecked with cottage prints...mixed with pink satins...silvery rayons and luxe barkcloths...that look forever engrained in mind...stored as artifacts of visual design history vintage 101 in my mind...self taught by a persnickety eye and a unusually obsessive appreciation for the lives these old relics lived...this is so much more than simply selling fabric...this is spiritual...this is the passing on of many souls who designed...created...sold...and lovingly used these treasures...This sale is for a never before used remnant of some very coveted shabby chic vintage fabric...most have seen this in a traditional weave barkcloth...however this is more for the lovers of more feminine weights...the unglazed cotton lovers...the lovers of raw washed down chintz...the ones who line up at estate sales for hours to get inside a old house to hunt for the most perfect of vintage decorator fabrics for which to add to their collection...it is not heavy...it is smooth and a perfect example of the higher end version of barkcloth prints from the cottage industry...a perfect pink ground...soft and sweet and the perfect canvas for which to bestow such wonderfully charming cottage garden bouquets...the beauty of them is in their realism...as if picked fresh from the garden...the soft lines and detailed use of color creates something truly magical...true red...shell pink...soft limes...sage...shades of pale grays...accented with white and a darkest raisin chocolate...measures 37 wide at pleats...34 long...this piece of design history is original old stock...it is near flawless, with a minor stain shown and noted in my pics...I haven\'t washed it only because I think whoever gets it may appreciate the unused aspect of it...but certainly I guarantee it\'s sturdy-ability if you want to wash it...designers over the years loved to up-cycle this pattern into pillow shams...because the width is so nice and wide...they would make them euro sized...but I think a really sweet overlay for a shabby chic cottage table...so take advantage of some good offerings this evening from my Florida Bungalow...just when you think we can\'t possibly have anything more fabulous...something more fabulous always comes along!
