A great old1800\'santique hand made string winder with oldstring.

*String winders like this were used in gardening to help mark the rows in straight lines.

*It possibly was used as a fishing string storage, there is a lead sinker on the end.

* I am selling with the string that was on the winder when I bought it. It looked like mice chewed some strings so I tucked the loose ends inside. I did not unwind it to tie the loose ends. There are a few knots in the string.

*It may have been used as a toy kite string winder.

*A string spool also could have been found in a carpenters tool box.

*Great old world construction! The parts were morticed together in a method that shows the skill of the craftsman.

*It was hand turned on a lathe layout lines cut when the craftsman was turning it.

*It was well made and has achieved a nice rustic color that will display well in your home. It looks like it had a coat of varnish on it that gives it a dark brown color.

*All the parts were made from solid chestnut wood which died out in the early 1900’s to a blight disease.

*It is 8 1/2\" long and 8\" wide and 1 1/8\"thick.
