- Old Yoruba beaded diviner\'s panel (Diviners were similar to priests and a beaded piece like this one would have been worn around the neck.)
- This piece is heavily beaded with dark blue, red and white beads
- Three dimensional beaded symbols include three human heads, two birds and a snake
- Panel is outlined with cowrie shells and has a beaded loop at the top for hanging
- Front of panel is hand stitched to back; dark colored striped backing appears to be cotton
- Measures 48\" in length (not including beaded loop at top) and about 5-1/2\" in width
- This piece is in very good condition for its age which I estimate to be mid 20th century. There is what appears to be some soiling to the beaded design, mostly on the tops of the three heads. I cannot tell if the discoloration is dirt or the natural coloring of the beads. There are a few loose threads on the front and one of the cowrie shells is loose on one end. The bead work all appears to be secure and intact. The cotton lining on the back is dark with age; some may be soiling.
- The gorgeous colors in this panel are fairly unusual. It would make a stunning addition to an African or Yoruban art collection!
