Old antique RARE dog spaghetti hair sealyham Scottish terrier Guppy pottery CA:

Description:Fabulous, old, very rare, figure of a terrier. It looks like a sealyham to me, could be aScotty or some other type of terrier. A large figure at about 4 1/2\" high x 6\" long& heavy. I don\'t see any maker\'s marks- there could be something on the bottom, some incised marks or faint stamped mark, but nothing I can make out for sure. Iwas told when Ipurchased this that it was made by Guppy pottery. It definitely looks like a California pottery from the 1940\'s or 1950\'s. Guppy was located in Corona del Mar, California in the 1940\'s and 1950\'s, so that fits. It was a very small pottery founded by Roy & HarrietGuppy. I couldn\'t find much information on the business. It appears their main product was dishes- square dishes with a dripglaze that was called \"Island Ware\". Calpotteries.comhad the most information on the company. That website indicated theydid make dogs, cats, horses with textured hair. I have never seen another dog like this. Coming from a small pottery and with the big bow and spaghetti hair, I would guess probably not many were made to start with & many fewer have survived the years. It does need cleaning, but I will leave that to the new owner, I didn\'t want to riskbreaking any of the hair. Excellent condition. There is aTINY nick on the edge of the dog\'s left ear (right ear as you face the dog). There is also crazing. The spaghetti hair appears to be all intact, that\'s always hard to tell for sure, but I don\'t see anything that appears broken or missing.
