Rare Malabar Omani Mandu Chest Mandoo Padouk Malabar Middle Eastern Carved Trunk ChestA beauty indeed, key is present, a fantastic antique piece. This rugged beauty is full of history and old world charm. Profusely covered in brass decor, and carved details, with hinged lid above candle drawer. The hinged top enclosing a candle box above relief carved foliate scrolling sides and front and geometric patterned back, side carrying handles and double lock. The left lock has movement but the movement is not smooth so we are unsure if it locks or not. We don\'t want to test it and risk getting locked out of the trunk. The right lock has no movement. We have not removed either lock, we have not oiled the locks either. Both locks look like they can be removed from the inside and possibly worked with. The key is present.It was purchased in the middle-east during the 1970’s by an Exxon Oil Executive who\'s liquidating his living estate outside Washington DC. Shiraz or Surat chest, Maharaja Trunk. Rosewood Malabar chests are the rarest of the Omani trunks. A wonderful piece without the substantial losses like most extant examples. Wear present throughout. Approx. 44\"w x 19.25\"deep x 19\"tall
