Today we will be offering (by separate lots) several previously unseen Japanese Christian Persecution manuscript Fumi-e designs, c1800. Fumi-e (Fumi = \"stepping on\" & e = \"picture\") were images of Jesus or the Virgin Mary that were used by the Shogun for suspected Christians who were required to step on the images to prove they were not members of the Christian church. This last example shows Jesus with hands bound. Manuscript measures 6 X 10 1/4 inches, well drawn, some holes, generally fair to good shape for the age, very rare & GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC.
