THISIS ANEARLY 100 YEAR OLD OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING BY LISTED ARTIST JESSIE HOWE ROBISON. SIOUX CHIEF RED HAWK ISMOUNTED IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE ORIGINAL WOODEN FRAME. Painter - Jessie Howe Robison, born in Fort Sill, OK on June 15, 1894. Jessie grew up among the Apaches and
Navajos whose portraits she painted when quite young. After her marriage to policeman, Wm Robison, she settled in Los Angeles. While living in Los Angeles in the 1930s, Robison studied at the Otis Art Institute for four years on scholarships. Exh: Calif. Art Club, 1937-38; OGlE, 1940; Ebell Salon (LA), 1937; Calif. Allied Arts, 1938 (1st prize)
She died in Reno, NV in October 1982.

RED HAWK (Cetan Luta) – Sioux Oglala. Born in 1854. He went on his first war party at the age of eleven. He eventually participated in twenty battles, including the battle against Custer at the Little Bighorn in 1876.
Red Hawk is listed as a \"brother\" of Iron Thunder (who was a \"brother\" of Hump) suggesting that he was born Minneconjou. As a young man, Red Hawk remained out with the non-treaty bands.
