Orig WWII Historical Red Q B-24 Bomber w/ Plane in Flames Crashing 465th Group Orig WWII Historical Red Q B-24 Bomber w/ Plane in Flames Crashing Background Varro
Original WWII photograph from the estate of Lou Varro taken during his service in Italy at Pantanella.
This picture is very dramatic showing a B-24 bomber engulfed in flames pitching down at a sharp angle.
In the foreground the Red Q in good detail, you can clearly see the gun barrel next to the red Q on the side of the plane.
Measures 4.6\" x 3.8\"
A welcome addition to any historic WWII aviation collection.
This is a light exposure, and shows some foxing marks on reverse. Dog ear top left corner and some light impressions on surface.

The 465th Bomb Group was part of the 55th Wing of the 15th Air Force in Europe.
The Group consisted of the 780th, 781st, 782nd and 783rd Bomb Squadrons Flying B-24 Liberators out of Pantanella Air Base, Italy.

Pantanella Airfield was located approximately 15km south of Cerignola.

Please check my other sales as I will be selling the entire collection of photographs and negatives, most of which are WW2 airplanes, pilots, military life, air combat and nose art. Lou Varro was stationed in southern Italy (780th Bombardment Squadron) during WWII and first worked as a processor for films that came off bomber planes after they were sent for an attack. He also created pin-up calendars for planes and huts. These photographs are from Lou\'s estate. He recently passed away at the age of 97 and was a close friend of mine.

His art is on display at the Smithsonian and he is famous for his paintings. He rarely sold his art, donating his best 234 paintings in April of 2000 to the permanent collection of the Missouri Art Council. This same year he was featured in the Smithsonian\'s first online exhibit \"Noted and Notorious.\"
