This is an original lithograph-- Plate 180-- from the fourth volume ofLes Maitres de L\'Affiche. The lithograph, published in 1899, is a smaller version of the1898 poster by Adolfo Hohenstein (1854-1928). Hohenstein\'s original 1898 poster was for the premiere performance of Pietro Mascagni\'s opera at the Teatro Constanzi in Rome.
The lithograph is in overall very good condition. There is some surface toning/browning from light exposure. Slight scuffing in two spots (on the top of the reverse only), probably from being previously adhered to matting. It does not show through to the front of the poster. The \"Maitres\" blindstamp is embossed in the lower right-hand corner. Happy offerding.
Les Maitres De L\'Affiche ( Masters Of The Poster ) prints are a series of 256 color lithographs published in Paris during The Belle Epoque. The series contained reduced lithographic versions of the best posters in Europe and America from 97 great artists..It was published by Chaix Imprimerie when Jules Cheret was the artistic director.
