DESCRIPTION

A spectacular 1920s couture opera coat by Reville in soft black velvet, trimmed in fur and lined in striped silver green pure silk.

Glamorous and exuding luxury the wide sleeves are studded with hundreds of tiny diamante in geometric patterns in a band around the centre, the coat closing with a single concealed button at the collar.

To add structure, and to provide a different look if desired, each cuff is lined with three bands of metallic brocade braid.

Reville was exceeded only by Lucile as one of the most fashionable London based couture houses of the 1920s, being a particular favourite of Queen Mary for whom the company acted as court dressmaker.

SIZE

Equivalent to anywhere between a modern UK size 8 and 12 as a simple, gently tapered wrap style. From the shoulder to the outside edge of the fur cuff is 25 inches, from mid-shoulder (under the collar) to hem, measured on the hanger, is 41 inches.

CONDITION

Good wearable condition, the velvet jet black and soft with all the diamante intact. Sewn repairs and fraying/holing to the silk lining around the label and to the collar seam where the fabric has pulled during wear (see last two images). The coat is wearable as-is, but further stabilisation would help. A very, very faint rectangular mark to the pile of the velvet just below the right collar.
