Original small poster or large promotional advertisement for the silent film \"4 Devils\" directed by F. W Murnau and produced by William Fox. A very nice line art piece, measures 12 1/2\" x 16\". 4 Devils is somewhat iconic as the original 1928 film is lost (see below). This came from the estate of a 95-year old antique dealer, and I can\'t find any others like it anywhere. I think it depicts Mary Duncan and Charles Morton. The back says \"circa 1929\" but I suspect it\'s from 1928 since that\'s when the movie came out. From Wikipedia: 4 Devils (also known as Four Devils) is a lost 1928 American silent drama film directed by German film director F. W. Murnau and starring Janet Gaynor. The plot concerns four orphans (Janet Gaynor, Nancy Drexel, Barry Norton, and Charles Morton) who become a high wire act, and centers around sinister goings-on at a circus. No copies of either version of the film are known to exist, and 4 Devils remains among the most sought after lost films of the silent era. In good but not very good condition--piece is mounted on cardboard and appears to have once been framed as there is a brown mat mark just inside the printed border. There is one edge tear that just reaches the margin of the printed section (shown), and some light wrinkling at the bottom left that may be due to moisture. Overall presents well and a rare piece of silent movie history.
