WEBSTER MARINE CHRONOMETER
Webster Marine Chronometer. Cornhill, London. Serial No 978. 2-day box marine chronometer from a British firm, circa 1840.
After fully researching, it is not a regular Webster made for Kullber, as it is not a reverse fusee movement, it is a plain regular fusee movement. So it is not an usual Webster clock. I don´t know who was the frame maker No 5294, of course, but that makes it a few special. A clock of 180 years old in pristine conditions.
Webster worked at cornhill from 1844 to 1872, its recorded very clearly, he actually worked at 2 addresses in Cornhill, this is an early number clock and does not have a street number printed on the dial. It is a very early clock and is clearly recorded in ref books for late 1830\'s to early 1840;s and was made at the time the company changed workshop addresses from change Alley address to Cornhill address. Now, the number on the frame: Kullberg only made some of the clocks that Webster sold at this time, this clock was made by another frame maker and thats his number stamped on the frame. So, taking these undisputed facts into careful consideration, this makes the clock more interesting, as it is not the more common Kullberg found in some webster clocks at this time, not all, but more common later on in time, not at this early time. I think that it is a very good rare 180 yeras old clock. The box is correct for an 1840;s chronometer.
