This is a rare example of a Union Civil War cavalry saber. The tang of the sword has the letters J.B.A. on it. I looked it up and this is the mark of J.B. Allure who was a private contractor in Chicago. The top of the handle is marked A.C.M. This is the U.S. military inspection mark of Alfred C. Manning. The only year that it is mentioned that he worked in that office is 1863. This sword is much scarcer than those made by the well known manufacturers. The overall length is 42\". The blade is 35\" long and 1 1/16\" wide. The handle is brass, 5 3/4\" long, 5\" deep and 3 7/8\" wide.
The sword is in excellent condition with just some dings from use. The leather and wrapping of the handle is in very good condition. It still has the leather spacer at the base of the blade. It slides in and out nicely and stays in just the way it should. The scabbard has some dents and rust.
Buyer pays shipping. I take Pay-pal. Thanks for looking and may God bless.
