Jacob was age 9 in the 1850 Jackson, Allen County, Ohio census with parents Rinehart, age 51, born in Germany & Phebe, 43, born in Ohio. Jacob\'s older siblings, all born in Ohio, were Nancy, 18; Nathan, 16; & Sarah, 14. Peter was also listed as age 9. (Oldfield / Ahlefeld)There is an Allen County, Ohio marriage index listing for Elizabeth Lippencott and Jacob R Oldfield 22 Aug 1861. (Oldfield / Ahlefeld)Jacob R. Ahlefeld enlisted at age 24 in Co. E of the Ohio 197th Infantry Regiment. He served during the final months of the Civil War and received a rank of Full 2nd Lieutenant. He mustered out 31 July, 1865 at Baltimore, Maryland. There are two marriages listed in the Coffey County marriage index for Jacob or J. R. Ahlefeld. He married Honor Smith 21 July 1869. Two of their children are buried in Mount Hope Cemetery. J. R. Ahlefeld also married Jennie E. Perry 20 May 1873. Jenny Ward had married William B. Perry 5 Sep 1864.J. R. Ahlefeld was listed on the 1885 state census in the town of LeRoy. He was listed as an attorney, born in Ohio. J. E., a female, age 43, was born in New York. They were listed with J. E. Ward, a female, age 70, born in New York. (Jennie\'s mother) They continued to live in Coffey County and were both listed as age 64 on the 1905 state census in LeRoy. By 1910, Jacob R. Ahlefeld was living in Gentry, Benton County, Arkansas, with his widowed niece, Nora Ward, and her daughters, Mabel and Edith. They were still there in 1920 and Jacob was listed as 79 years of age. A GAR record from the Orloff Norton Post #190 at LeRoy lists his birth in Richland County, Ohio. He was listed as age 44 in 1884. Jacob R. Ahlefeld is listed in a 1962 survey of veterans buried in Coffey County, Kansas. His dates are listed as Aug. 13, 1840 - Aug. 20, 1920. Peter, a twin brother of Jacob, died 7 May 1917 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. (Ohio records)
