It is hand carved out of aged pine. The sense of proportion, the figure\'s relaxed pose, expressive face & details (note the folds of his clothing) are all characteristic of the artist\'s work. Caron\'s signature is carved into the front of the base. He termed his style \"Folklore Sculpture\" - each piece was intended to tell a story about the real-life Quebec people he chose to represent.ABOUT THE ARTIST: Paul Emile Caron (Canadian, 1915-1987) was a master sculptor and the \"father\" of the Caron family of wood sculptors. He is known for his life-like wood representations of real Quebec natives which he created between 1945 until the 1960\'s. His studio/shop, \"Les Sculptures Caron Inc.\" was located in the St.-Jean-Port-Joli area of Quebec, Canada.NOTE: the business was sold in 1976 to commercial interests who now mass-produce his carvings. Originals are easily distinguished from the copies: Caron carved his signature into the base of each piece. The copies are stamped with the Caron name
