?This is an ORIGINAL and Rare Army Air Service Type 1-A flying helmet issued to WWI aviators from WWI through the 1920\'s. A brief discussion of this helmet is on the US Militaria Forum entitled \"Early WWII Army Air Corps Leather Flying Helmet\", dated March 22, 2009. It is also shown and discussed in Mick Prodger\'s excellent reference book Vintage Flying Helmets at pages 32 and 147-8.

The leather helmet is in VERY GOOD condition, with the chin strap, original adjustment lace at the back of the helmet and the manufacturer\'s woven tag indicating a size medium (7-1/4). The only blemish is a tear in the inner lining at the top of the helmet (see image), which wouldn\'t be visible when worn or displayed. As usual, the helmet doesn\'t have the Western Electric earphone receivers which were used in these helmets. An appropriate pair of the Luxor Meyrowitz B-1/B-1A googles typically worn with these helmets appears in another listing of mine.

Here\'s an opportunity for the advanced WWI aviation collector or re-enactor to obtain a rare flying helmet in very good condition for the collection of impression.
