Original Victorian Asylum Solid Brass Door Knobs 7 x Pairs Gorgeous:

7 x pairs of original Victorian solid brass door knobs with their brass roses They have the old pitmans spindles where one side is fixed and the other side screws into it\'s partner and fixes with a grub screw to secure.

They measure 60 mm diameter x 55 mm depth the roses are 57 mm diameter.

These are over 100years old and come from an old Victorian asylum

These knobs once opened doors in the nurses quarter of the West Riding County Asylum at Stanley Royd.

I originally had 15 pairs , 8 pairs have already sold these are the last 7 pairs

To all intents and purposes the old Asylum is gone- there are a few remaining ward buildings that have been converted into flats and the old asylum theatre retained (rescued) - only because of it\'s grade 2 listed status . This still stands but it doesn\'t stand out, it has been sanitised and it\'s character expunged - exorcised away by the paint and plastic of modernity.

The strange atmosphere that resides in such places - the soft dusty light filtered only by time, the creeks and distant sounds of footsteps and voices in far off wards carried along corridors to rush and suddenly stop at the doorI once stood before - All that is gone

To twist this knob to open the door to face what came so urgently to it- ah! There indeed is the rub and my vast experience upon opening such doors? A fox, A friend , A fellow explorer? Yes sometimes but not always , sometimes there is something else and when there is I welcome it!!
