This is an original, 19th centuryvintage lithograph from the Les Maītres de l’Affiche collection.

Les Maītres de l’Affiche (The Masters Of ThePoster) is a collection of 256 small-size posters produced by Imprimerie Chaixin Paris from 1895 to 1900. The posterswere sold to collectors on a subscription basis, with subscribers receiving new“issues” every few months, each issue containing several lithographs. 97 artists are represented in the collection.

This item is plate 73, entitled Folies Bergère -La Loïe Fuller, by the French artist Jules Chéret. It was produced as part of issue 19 in 1897. The image advertises a dance performance byLoïe Fuller at the Folies Bèrgeres.Embossed Imprimerie Chaix chop in lower right. Size = 15-3/4 x 11-3/8 inches.

Jules Chéret is the most popular and prolificartist in the collection with 67 of the 256 plates. Probably no other artist better representsthe spirit and esthetic of the Belle Epoque.He also was the first major poster artist to draw directly onlithographic stone.

This item is one of most of sought-afterlithographs in the entire collection due to its strong central image and theportrayal of Miss Fuller, a celebrated dancer in turn-of-the-century Paris.
