Walter Edward Burgess served on the Western Front as a Driver in the Army Service Corps during WW1.

I have obtained photocopies of his original Medal Index Card, Medal Rolls, SWB Roll, Service Record and other documents, that relate to his medal entitlement, war service and personal details.

Walter was born 1 January 1893 in Wolverhamton, Staffordshire, England, the son of Edward Burgess (1869-1929) and Sarah Burgess (nee Wilkes 1864-1903). In 1911 he was working as a Bakers Van Boy and living with his father, stepmother Jane Burgess and siblings at 9 Derfold Street, Castle Foregate, Shrewsbury.

Walter enlisted into the Army Service Corps on the 29.9.14. He was posted overseas to France on the 15.3.15. until 20.2.16., he returned to the UK 21.2.16 until 15.6.16. he returned to France on the 16.6.16 until 14.9.16. He served in the UK from the 15.9.16 until he was discharged through ill health on the 10.3.19. He was awarded a Silver War Badge.

He married Emily Roberts? in 1915 in Atcham, Shropshire. Walter died in December 1971 age78.
