WOW! Hate to let this one go, but collecting for years Im finding out that we cant take this stuff with us to the other side, and i dint want the wife to sell it at the garage sale for $20.00 bucks!!
This item is a local find, I obtained it from the Vets granddaughter. Her grandfather was born 1888 and lived till 1977. His name was Leon Antonioli. The Vet was apart of the 50th Aero Squadron. Doing some research this Squadron was famous during the WW1. The 50th Aero Squadron was organized on Aug. 6, 1917 at Kelly Field No. 1, Texas, with 149 men. The Squadron received training in engine repair, aerial bombing, gunnery, photography and other instruction at RFC Harlaxton in Lincolnshire, England, before entering combat in France during World War 1. The squadron insignia is the Dutch Girl, the trademark emblem of the Old Dutch Cleanser. This image was adopted by the men of the 50th Aero Squadron to represent that their focus was to \"clean up on Germany\" during WW1.The 50th was an observation Unit which took part in the Argonne and St. Mihiel offences. It was instrumental in supplying the \"Lost Battalion\" low altitude flying and dropping supplies to them. Four men recieved the Medal of Honor from the Squadron.
