PAIR - 19thc Chinese Famille Verte Porcelain Urn lamps, warriors horses flags:
$260.00

Fantastic matching urns, valued by Dana Tillou Antiques in 1992 for $1100, thoughtfully converted to lamps. \"Mud\' bird finials were original decoration to the lids of the urns - diamond wheel sawed off and mounted to create lamp finials. Lampmaker then drilled down through the dome of the lid and the base of the urn and the ebony (ironwood or rosewood?) colored wood hand carved bases to electrify with solid brass fittings. Handmade pagoda shaped silk shades.
The porcelains are antique Chinese - see sale listing291031108636for similar - I seem to vaguely recall that the bases are marked but I am not going to undo the lamp pieces to capture as I am sure collectors of Chinese porcelain know precisely what these are even as I do not. One lamp is ever so slightly taller than the other given the hand-crafted nature of both the porcelain and the stands - we attempted to correct thisaesthetically by mounting one of the bird finials on a shorter riser (which is noticeable when you have them side-by-side but absolutely not when they are on different tables).
Deep emerald green, cinnabar lacquer red, yellow, lavender form the basis of the warrior scene with both mounted on horses and foot soldiers engaged in battle with mountains in the background. All over crackle glaze with accents (such as the bird finial) in matte finished incised with patterns mud color at bases, shoulders and rim of lids. Lamps measure 21 1/2\" and 22 1/8\' from top of birds\' heads on finial to feet of the wooden stands.
The missing piece of wood from the base of one lamp predates being turned into a lamp, the damage to the lid of one lamp was as a result of a reckless ex-boyfriend (this was the reason he became the ex) not aoffering by my request to not stretch his arms while sitting on the sofa - sorry I couldn\'t find the piece. You have to really look for it to notice it but in the interest of full disclosure.
Sold without reserve. Starting price is far less than I have invested in the component pieces - moving overseas, so I am not going to take them and rewire.
Thanks for looking, please note other sales to clear out my 30 years ofaccumulation. No smoking, no pet household.
Will ship in one VERY LARGE box with actual lamps in a 2nd box inside - all properly packed to ensure safe delivery. Insured and signature required - sorry this will all be a bit more expensive.
