TURNED WOODEN BASES
1800s
A matching pair of nineteenth century large silver plated coasters which appear to have been made by the Old Sheffield Plating method with the silver laid and rolled upon the copper foundation. They are gadrooned decorated and finished with a twisted rope border to the rim. The turned wooden bases are finished with a central plated button in the traditional manner. The pads to the underside look to be original to the pieces.
They are estimated to have been made during the first half of the nineteenth century.
In good genuine antique condition. There is some bleeding to the gadrooned decoration (appears to have been polished back to give even highlights) and the rims possess a slight deviation to the line which for some reason or photographic anomaly, is emphasised in the images but less noticeable to the naked eye. The pads to the underside are a tad tired and faded but still fit for purpose.
Display beautifully.
