POST MORTEM DRAWING - \"OLD ROVER\" IN HALF OF A 1/4 PLATE TINTYPE CASE - RARE! - You are considering a wonderful and high quality drawing of someone\'s dog and inscribed on the backside as, \"Old Rover.\" I am assuming since they had titled their pet as Ol\' Rover, this image was done after their faithful companion had passed on and went to Doggy Heaven. This post mortem drawing appears to be done by a skillful artist, who may have been paid to capture the last visual memory before he was laid to rest. His portrait is housed in the bottom half of a quarter plate tintype case with a blue paper mat surrounded by a brass tintype mat with preserver and coverglass. No matter what the history is behind this endearing portrait, one thing is for sure, their owner truly loved \"Old Rover\" enough to have his likeness captured. Good luck to all my fellow collectors winning this sentimental keepsake of someone\'s best friend from the 19th Century. I am sure someone out their will be willing to help Ol\' Rover\'s memory live on.
CONDITION:Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The drawing was certainly done by a skillful hand. The image resides in the bottom half of a quarter plate tintype case, with a paper mat surrounded by a brass mat, coverglass and held by the preserver. Their is an original inscription on the backside with a few other notations. Two corners of the half case are separating, but the exterior is in decent shape. A rare, one-of-a-kind, skillful drawing is what makes this ahighly sought after antique. And possibly being a post mortem image, makes it even more desirable.
