Just a great apple box or tray with built in providence as it is made from an old shipping box from the SEYMS & Co. Grocer\'s (1840-1890). The Seyms Company dates back to at least the early 1840\'s Hartford, Connecticut area & a street was named Seyms Street in the 1800\'s. I think this item, at least the wood box was from the early to mid 1800\'s as the Seyms & Co was no longer just the Seyms name by the late 1800\'s, but was associated with other names (Like Lincoln, Seyms & Co.).
It is nailed together as shown & some nails show through. See all pictures taken for your consideration. It is still very solid. I did not attempt to clean & left as I purchased. Item was from the estate of a former Connecticut resident, which explains the box.
Measures roughly 12.5\"x 7.75\"x 2.5\", just right for a display. I\'m sure Connecticut collectors will know more about the family name Seyms. You can find various old references to them buying & selling Tobacco, Sugar, Coffee & various other items, but I did not find a full history on company. If anyone knows more on the Seyms Company & history, please share. I love to find out & share little trinkets like that.
