L<img the Rare1961 Krewe ofRex (HAS) Plain AluminumDoubloon (Inverted \'V\' Variety, Inventory No. 318). The doubloon measures 39 mm or 1 1/2\" in diameter and is in Excellent Condition (PRISTINE!). Payment due within 48 hours of purchase. Note: The obverse features the Rex (HAS) Logo. The reverse featuresthe Musical Score to the Anthem of Mardi Gras \"If Ever I Cease To Love,\" an Artist\'s Pallette and a Mardi Gras Mask and reads \"PRO BONO PUBLICO...IF EVER I CEASE TO LOVE...MARDI GRAS...NEW ORLEANS...1961.\"This doubloon was designed by H. Alvin Sharpe, the creator of the Mardi Gras Doubloon, and bears his familiar \'HAS\' initials. This is only the second doubloon to be issued in Mardi Gras History, the first being the 1960 Rex Plain Aluminum Doubloon. The obverse of this doubloon also has what is referred to as an \"Inverted \'V.\'\" This is hard to photograph, so I showed it in a pencil tracing shown in Photo 3. Towards the end of the 1960 Production Run, a small V shaped metallic fragment adhered to the obverse die and doubloons struck with the metal fragment present all had the infamous \"Inverted V\" mark on them and are considered a separate variety from those doubloons which do not have the Inverted V Mark on their obverse. This 1960 defect carrier over to the first doubloons in the 1961 Production Run and 1961 Inverted V Variety doubloons were made until someone discovered the defect and polished if off the die during the 1961 Production Run. This doubloon is in Exceptional, Pristine Condition, is much nicer than it appears in the photosand is sure to please any collector. These photos do not clearly show the \"Inverted V\" mark on the obverse as clearly as I would like, but rest assured the \"Inverted V\" mark is present and clearly visible on this doubloon. (Unless specifically described as \'toning,\' any Gold, Green or Purple Hues appearing on any item are the reflection of a Mardi Gras Banner which hangs above my desk.)
