ThisProvidential TileWorks\'Gladiator\' tile measures 4.25" square. TheProvidential Tileworksstarted in business in 1885 and operated until the late 1913 in Trenton, NJ.This tile is decorated in high relief with a strong portrait of a Gladiator or soldier. It is glazed inadeep richgreen glaze, thinning at the high points, accentuating the design very handsomely, and finished to a high gloss. It is well marked on the backside.This tileis infine condition, with minor edge nicks from use over the years, but none are distracting to its presentation as can be seen in the photos. This tile is over 100 years old, so it\'s actually in wonderful condition for it\'s age.If you collectAmerican art tiles, thisProvidential Tile Works tile is a wonderful example ofclassic American Art Tile from the early 1900s,and it\'s very clean and veryhandsome!
