DESCRIPTION: Up for sale is a very nice Portrait of a Seated Woman that reminds me of the Provincetown painters such as Henry Hensche, and also Gloucester/New York painter William Meyerowitz. It has the bold color and palette knife application of paint used by many of the Provincetown painters of the teens and 1920\'s. Judging from the age of the stretcher I would guess a circa date for this painting of around 1920. Perhaps someone out there recognizes the artist. If you go on askArt and look at the work of William Meyerowitz you will notice the similarities. I have listed theparticulars below and a condition report. CONDITION: The painting is in untouched, original condition and very dirty. The paint is stable but there is a 2 inch v-shaped tear in the lower left. The paint is still there where the tear is so a patch and limited inpaint should resolve the issue. The overall painting has oxidized over time so a cleaning will really punch the color back up. It should clean very nicely. The canvas is a little loose on the stretcher so it will need to be restretched or at least keyed out. Everything is fine under black light. Please use the zoom feature to examine the photos in greater detail.
