A truly hypnotic jewel comprised of many dynamic three-dimensional elements. Everything is rendered in wonderful shining deep colours. The enamel is of the highest order. Every detail is crisp and it glows nicely. The combined elements of deep red and icy blue with golden and silver accents recall ancient mystical treasures. The Jewel is inscribed on the backside, having been presented to its recipient by the lodge. The Jewel is in very good vintage condition with only some normal expected minor wear. Only the top tier has light surface scratches, but that can easily be buffed. No problems. Even the ribbon is fine. Everything is really nice here. The piece is not marked. We are not jewelers and cannot appraise gold or silver, but we understand that these type of jewels are usually silver or gold plated or contain gold or silver elements in one form or another. We think that this jewel may possibly be silver with some light gold plating. That is an opinion based on appearence. Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist Charles George Werner was born in 1909 in Wisconsin and died in 1997. He had a distinguished 60 year long career. Werner won a Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1939. The cartoon he won it for was published in the \"Daily Oklahoman\" on October 6, 1938. Titled: \"Nomination for 1938,\" the cartoon depicted the Munich Agreement which provided for the transfer of Sudetenland to Hitler\'s Germany. At 29 years of age, Werner was the youngest person to win the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. Among Werner\'s many admirers were US Presidents and Hollywood notables. From 1930 to 1935 he was staff artist as well as photographer for Springfield, Missouri\'s \"Leader\" and \"Press\" periodicals. In 1935 Werner joined the \"Daily Oklahoman\" where he become the editoral cartoonist in 1937. Eventually Werner left the \"Oklahoman\" to take the official position of Chief Editorial Cartoonist at the \"Chicago Sun\" in 1941. He eventually quit the \"Sun\" for the \"Indianapolis Star\" in 1947 and worked there for 47 years. In 1959 Charles George Werner served as President of the \"Association of American Editorial Cartoonists\". In 1965, President Lyndon Baines Johnson purchased over a dozen original Werner cartoons for his collection. Former President Harry Truman commissioned a cartoon from Werner for his presidential library. During his career, Werner received numerous awards and prizes. Besides the esteemed Pulitzer, he also received the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Excellence in Journalism in 1943, and seven Freedom Foundation Awards (1951–1963). During the 1969 International Salon of Cartoons in Montreal Canada, Werner won an award as \"ONE OF THE WORLD\'S SIX BEST CARTOONISTS\".
