Pair Fine Empress ofChina Faux-Chinese American Market Six Sides Vases,

14\"h x 5\" x 3 ¼” base, c. late 19th- early 20thcentury.

Six sides shape withpomegranate handles on thick body orange peel porcelain. Beautifully painted incolor enamels & gilt reproducing the 18th century fox huntpattern on a bowl now in Mystic Seaport which was sent home in 1785 by JohnMorgan, ship’s carpenter on the Empress of China. This pattern with variationsis shown in figure 43, p. 114 of Jean McClure Mudge, CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAINFOR THE AMERICAN TRADE 1785-1835, U of Del Press, 1962.

Thereis natural wear to the gilt trim at the rim edges and to the gilt of thediapers.

The pair is not recent and is in fine condition with no damage of anykind.
