This pair of French or Austrian Empire period candlesticks areunique in my experience and I can\'t findand comparable examples in my research. These clearly come from the Napoleonic War period or possibly slightly later. They appear to be the sort of thing an officer of that period would have had on his desk. Theyconsist ofbrass beaded bases andturned brass candle nozzles connected to each other by a symmetrical pile of five miniature cannonballs (actually I think they are real1.25\" iron grapeshot balls - there is slight variation in the sizes of the balls). The candlesticks stand a total of 6\" talland are held together with a central threaded armature. They weigh a stunning cumulative total of 67 oz. One of the candlesticks looks like it was wired at one time for electricity with external wiring given that there are two holes in the base and two in the candle socket. These holes were done long ago and I don\'t find them intrusive to the looks of these amazing military themed candlesticks. One of the candle sockets is slightly tipped and there is a brass tube that the armature passes through on one candlestick but not on the other (again, something that is barely visable).
