Pair GLI ETRUSCHI Mid-Century Pottery Vases IVO DE SANTIS Fantoni Gambone Raymor:
$1400.00

Extremely rare complementary pair of mid-century Italian vases by the eccentric ceramics genius Ivo de Santis for his Gli Etruschi pottery in Florence. A friend of Marcello Fantoni (also of Florence), Ivo de Santis\' pottery compares favorably with that of Fantoni and Guido Gambone. These vases are exceptional examples in every respect, from design conception through execution and firing, not to mention that amazing lime green glaze. Inspired by ancient Etruscan forms, as well as mid-20th century art, particularly Abstract Expressionism, Pop, and Color Field painting, de Santis combined these influences to produce ceramic works of art that are all his own. Studio quality, very heavy mold-pressed bodies (similar to technique used by Soji Hamada for his sculptural vessels) with wheel-thrown applied necks. Decorated on both sides equally well. They are in exceptional near-mint condition, without issue. Measurements are 10-1/4\" tall x 4-5/8\" wide x 3\" deep (taller vase) and 9\" tall x 6-1/4\" wide x 4-1/2\" deep (shorter vase). Shipping includes insurance.
