This is anunusual fine pair of rare antique Form Plates, deep elliptical (ovoid shaped)plates, known as Large Fruit Plates.

Each of theserare form plates:

-is ChineseExport Canton Porcelain, in the Famille Rose Mandarin pattern and colorpalette;

-has thestylized border pattern, decorated with a background of flowers, fruits, andbutterflies;

-has a largecentral reserve of courtyard scenes, one decorated with five, and the secondwith eight, elegantly clad imperial Mandarin style figures in colorful robeswith gold gilding in their hair;

-is nicelyenameled with many colors including famille rose pink, peach, iron red, willowand sage green, lilac purple, medium andsky blue, and gold gilding

-has a gildedrim edge, and a gilded inside rim at cavetto;

-has anorange peel style white glaze on the underside bottom, and the rim foot isunglazed;

The estimateddate is early mid-19th Century, circa 1835. (Note: The Rose Mandarin stylepredated Rose Medallion, which was begun around 1860.)

The pair ofFamille Rose Mandarin Form Plates are in very good condition, as noted. Condition statusincludes normal wear and rubbing, glaze losses, firing flaws, minor crazing andfretting. Specifically, Plate #1 includes three pits in the center of thereserve from the original firing; and Plate #2 includes two pits in the top centerand one in the center of the reserve from the original firing. Overall, bothplates are sound, having no other chips, cracks, or major defects, and havinghad no apparent repairs or restorations. Plates have been tested under a black light.This pair is sold as is, as described.Please see all photos which are a part of this description.
