A rare model of stool from the iconic J77 range designed by Finnish Folke Pålsson for FDB Møbler in the early 1960s.
FDB was born of an objective to marry functional design to democratic prices. The FDB concept was created in Denmark in 1933, and under the leadershipof Børge Morgensen as design director from 1944 FDB linked their domestic furniture production with architectural furniture design. Functionality and excellence of design were the cornerstones, the groundbreaking use of industrial production enabled great design to be affordable by the general population of Denmark, and later beyond.
Folke Pålsson’s J77 is the most recognisable model from their cannon of work. These stools from the same range have a more curved seat to them and legs that feature a greater splay as well as stretchers for additional strength.
These beautiful low stools have the most incredible lines; the perfect splay to the upwardly tapered legs, and that outrageously gorgeous concave curve to the seat. The original black finish serves to emphasise the bold lines.
These are a timeless and stunning pair suited to a myriad of uses in a beautiful home. We feel they’d look fabulous as a perching spot in a hallway, kitchen or living space.
The seat height makes them perfect for additions to the fold at the dinner table, whereupon you will smuglygrab them and providea genuinely comfortable perch for guests. They could also serve as footstools, book tables or as a serious upgrade to the seating in a stylish children’s room.
The original black finish has some minor surface marks commensurate with careful use and their 52 year vintage. No damage and nothing whatsoever that detracts, just testimony to a celebrated vintage. No loose joints etc. these have been fully cleaned, polished and all joints have been professionally attended to as necessary. They are perfectly robust and as sound as new.
