Each of these very fine 50+ year old shelves measures 10 ¾” x 9 ¾” x 6” deep (add 2” for the top peg) and is hand carved from solid wood with gesso, red bole and gold leaf finish. They boats graceful foliate scrolls with deeply rendered carving and are stamped Made in Italy on the back. You will note small nicks and chips in the finish and the gold is worn to expose the red ground in many places. The pegs were to hold hollow base statues in place.
