This is a part of very nice brass and solid marble bookends.Both are in great shape and extremely well crafted.There are no maker marks or cast marks that I could find on either of these pieces.I would assume they are American made. There are not date markings either.The depiction of the figure suggest some time around WWII.
I pulled these out of an estate of a U.S. Army Airborne Veteran.He served with the 11th Army Airborne in Vietnam.
Both pieces are free of any damage. The bases could probably use some new felt.Brass figure is bolted through the marble base.
The base of the bookend measures 5 1/2 inches long, and 4 5/8 inches wide.It measures 5 1/8 inches tall from the bottom of the base to the top of the curved marble piece.The brass airborne soldier is approximately 6 1/4 inches tall from the base under his feet to the top of his helmet.Overall height from the bottom of the book end to the top of the helmet is just barely over 7 inches tall.Each bookend is solid and weighs just over 5 pounds.
These are definitely quality made pieces depicting great military soldiers.
I have not seen any pieces depicting standing soldiers and I have only ever found single military type bookends.In my estimation, these are pretty rare and hard to come by pieces.
