Pair Of French Louis Xv White Painted Fauteuil Antique Arm Chairs C. 1890-1910:
Pair of French Louis XV Style Painted Fauteuil Arm Chairs
Probably c. 1890-1910
Item # 130005EVB20This is a pair of French Louis XV Style Painted Antique Arm Chairs, the surfaces covered in a grayed and distressed painted finish. Very attractive, they exhibit the typical lines of this highly common form, a design that has remained fervently fashionable for over 250 years. The tenoned joints are hidden, crafted quite carefully to result in a very firm and sturdy structure a little over a hundred years later - the frames have carved molding of the solid surrounding the checkered upholstered back, the upholstered arms curving around the thick and comfortably cushioned seat into curled and carved handholds. The chairs rest over cabriole legs that terminate in scrolling french toes. Both are heavy chairs, very comfortable and a simply outstanding pair for any serious interior decorator.
Measurements: 23 3/4" wide (arm to arm) x approximately 18 1/2" deep (front of seat to back of seat - add a few inches for total depth) x 33 1/2" high to crest, approximately 17 1/2" high to top of seat
Distressed finish, very attractive throughout. Underside of chairs are uncovered with some frays of fabric here and there. Cushions are affixed to the chairs, the upholstery remaining overall in excellent condition other than a "burn"/repair to the upholstered back of the second chair pictured - note the spot on the left hand side of the upholstered back. Minor dings and abrasions here and there as expected with any antique, both remaining in very firm and sturdy condition. Please review images in the slideshow for a full overview of condition.
