Pair of Silhouettes of a Lady and Gentleman

Circa 1820-1830

Offered here is a pair of silhouettes by the same hand, of a lady and gentleman in formal attire. They are painted on a black background with heavy gilt highlighting and probably date from around 1820 to 1830.

The paintings are set in large matching wooden frames of a later date and have very nice brass inner rims. While the only fault with the paintings is a small paper fleck on the gent’s face, the frames have some scratches and matching splits at the bottoms.

*Although there is no indication of the name of the artist, they are similar to some attributed to George Atkinson. However, this is difficult to pinpoint as Atkinson very often copied other artists’ styles and other artists copied him!
