Item Comment: An extremely rare and very early black velvet bag that once contained a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This historical bag differs from the others on due to its age. I have had this bag in my possession for 15 or so years and originally obtained it as a gift from a fellow co-worker back when he moonlighted on the weekends and evenings as a clerk in a liquor store. This bag differs from current embroidered bags because it was screen printed with gold ink. I contacted the distillery via email about the screen printed bag and I received the following reply from Van Winkle family member and Marketing Manager, J. Preston Van Winkle:

\"I believe that early bottlings of the 23yr did in fact have screen printed bags but we’ve moved to embroidery to better reflect the quality of the brand. If you friend got the bag while working at a retail outlet I can only assume that the bag is in fact genuine. If I discover otherwise as I look back at records (the first bottling was in 1997 or 1998, predating my joining the business) I will certainly let you know.\"
