The red and gold embossed hardcover is slightly soiled but the binding is tight throughout. The pages are lightly age toned. It was published in 1887 by Pollard & Moss, New York. Doré’s exquisite illustrations span all of the poet’s descriptions of God’s creation, the ascent and fall of man, the cunning wit of evil, and man’s wide-eyed moral turpitude. “Abandon hope all ye who enter here.” Dante Alighieri’s haunting tour through the nine circles of Hell ranks among the highest points of literary achievement. The illustrations are crisp and clean with slight age toning. Two pages in the introduction each have a tiny one inch tear. 50+ exquisite illustrations. The book measures 10 1/4 x 13 1/4 x 1 1/2 inches thick and has 402 pages and weighs over 5 lbs. The book is in good condition for its age.
