From a group of 1940\'s - 1950\'s Modernist paintings by the well listed American painter Paul Zimmerman (1921 - 2007.) Zimmerman was born in Toledo OH and grew up in Kokomo IN. Upon graduation from high school he attended the John Herron School of Art on a full scholarship. Following his graduation in 1946 he received another scholarship to study in New York City. He then took a position at the Hartford School of Art where he remained until his death in 2007.

Zimmerman\' early works fall into the Midwest Regionalist style. He painted the landscape around Kokomo and small Midwest towns. Following his move to NYC he became much more of a Mid Century Modernist in style. Yet he never gave up his midwest roots and continued to paint in that style along side the style that he adopted in NY. He exhibited widely during his career and is held in countless private and public collections.

All of these oil paintings are unframed and in as found uncleaned and unvarnished condition with minor rubs, nicks, and scratches as photographed.

This gouache on thin board painting depicts abstracted Modernist figures. The board measures approx. 20 x 13 3/4in. The work dates to the 1950\'s and is signed verso.
