In the 1930s, Eugene Ashton Perry, then the Master of theCenter Grammar School in Malden, Massachusetts, discovered, as stated in hiscatalogue,

“the possibility ofmaking and distributing half-tone reproductions of paintings, sculpture,architecture and selling them soreasonably that no one was too rich andno one was too poor to own apicture”.

And so, Mr. Perry went into the business of providing art tothe masses, in the form of half-tone reproductions from photographs or steelengravings. He offered hundreds ofdifferent prints in One Cent, Two Cent, Four Cent and TenCent sizes – The price corresponding to the size of the print. I have been fortunate enough to acquire alarge number of these original prints.

This is Perry’s Ten Cent Extra Size, which is 10 by 12inches and printed on heavy, textured paper.

It features a portrait of Washington Irving.
