Robert Lovett, Jr. is perhaps the most famous of the Lovett family of engravers and die sinkers due to his creation of a prototype Confederate cent that is now highly sought by wealthy collectors. There is currently one posted here on with an asking price in excess of $50,000. This token honors Stephen Girard, a native Frenchman who settled in Philadelphia in 1776 and went on to become one of the wealthiest Americans of all time based on his net worth compared to the country\'s GDP while he was alive. He was credited with saving the United States government from financial collapse during the War of 1812. This token is a beautiful example of the large body of tokens and medals produced by Robert Lovett Jr.

This is a very choice uncirculated specimen of this well-executed token. It is attractively toned with mostly blue toning that covers much of the devices and fields. Unfortunately, the toning in the fields doesn\'t show up in the photos. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are proof-like even though NGC did not give this token a PL designation.
