I am very pleased to be expanding my line of fountain pens to include high end Pilot Urushi maki-e pens. Today i will introduce one of my best collections: Pilot Nippon Art Makie Botan Peony flower makie fountain pen.The ancient Japanese tradition of maki-e is an art form that combines meticulous attention to detail with deep symbolism and mythology. The training for maki-e artists is so rigorous that a novice works for decades before making a pen without the supervision of a master craftsman. To give you all the details of these incredible works of art, i sat down with bunch of books about makies to learn the ins and outs of Pilot maki-e fountain pens.

PEN SIZE, DESIGN, COMFORT

All of these pens of this collections are comfortable and well designed. The Maki-e does not interfere with holding the pen. I post my caps, and have not had a problem (yet) with this effecting the artwork. The Urushi makie I personally find the most comfortable to hold.

Botan (peony) design represents good fortune and longevity and also exhibits good fortune and power. The Golden Pheasant design accurately portrays the beauty of this exotic flower features the Wealth,stately, shy, Shyness symbolic of a virtuous ruler who is powerful but modest. These intricate designs are available as a fountain pen with 14 karat gold fine nib with black ink and a fine point. Stylishly merchandised, each pen comes in a traditional oriental wood gift box. WRITING EXPERIENCE:

ll these pens had smooth, flawlessly-writing nibs straight out of the box. Since these are Japanese, keep in mind that a Fine is more like a Western Extra-Fine, and an Extra-Fine is more like a needlepoint. In terms of flex, I would say that Sailor is the stiffest, Pilot is the springiest, and Platinum is close to Pilot. All the nibs are gold: The Sailor is 21K yellow gold; the Pilots Urushi makies are 14K yellow-gold; the Platinum is 14K yellow gold. The Platinum nib is the least decorated. The Platinum nib is also huge in comparison to the others. If i have to say overall experinece of using this pen, i would say, by far best writing experience from Pilot. Whoever, likes Pilot Urushi would completely agree with me for sure. I used this pen for a month. I hope you will love the pen. Nib is tested and reviewed. The pen is in best condition.

ON THE PAPER:

Generally Pilot nib sizes run one size smaller than their western counterparts. Pen nib features 14K solid gold and the flow is even and the nib is tolerant to variations in angle, in short the nib has a very large sweet spot. About the writing experience, the nib is butter smooth as is expected from a Pilot.

Comparing it with my Custom 845, which is also 14k, Custom Urushi seemed to write a wetter line, does write smoother when compared to any of my Customs.
