#3776 Kaga Hira SAKURA Makie

Hira maki-e technique is applied, in which over the patterned urushi undercoating, the proper powders are chosen out of several dozen types of gold and silver powders and then sprinkled over. The urokomon, which is recognized as kiccho pattern (scale pattern) from the ancient time, is boldly drawn.

Maki-e is a Japanese lacquer art that utilizes urushi lacquer to decorate. Stemming from the words “maku” meaning “to sprinkle” and “e” meaning “painting,” maki-e is a technique that a gold powder is sprinkled over after undercoating, painting and coloring so as to obtain a luxury and stereoscopic effect. The quality of maki-e largely depends on the work process of shitaji (undercoating) and uwanuri (top coating) that affect the total outcome, and finally the togidashi (polishing of the surface to make it flat) after the top coating determines the quality of the final work.

#3776 Platinum Single Tone 14K Gold Nib

The nib and feed are standard 3776 parts and that is indeed a good thing. It means that the nib writes a consistent fine line with little or no fuss. No skipping, no dry starts, no catching, essentially no problems at all. On the 3776, as on their Nakaya cousins, the nibs are labeled with Japanese characters to indicate the tip size.

The nib/feed section is friction-fit and comes in 14k single-tone design across three stock widths of F, M & B. Above the tail lies the brand imprint of PLATINUM specified with nib type i.e 3776 along with nib-composition (14 K) and width. The nib lays a moderately wet and smooth line with a characteristic stiffness. The black resin feed for the #3776 nib has closely spaced fins and even with the cap open for a while, it does not take any effort to lay a nice and wet line.

How we made PenSachi

My name is Ken Katsumoto. I would like to tell you ourstory which led us to the idea of making PenSachi today. It is all about passion, experiences and love when talking about our journey to build up PenSachi. I have come to know about writing as an interest, a hobby, a passion, a dream. Now,writing and writing instruments have becomemy whole life journey.

My dream is that I could start a business which would make people experience, enjoy and be happy.Thanks to my journey to many countries in the world in the past, I was so lucky tohavefriends who also share with me the same interest and passion in writing instruments. They have come all the way to Japan and started this new journey with me. It took us a year for preparationand in 2014, we officially announced the foundation of PenSachi company.

Through the provision of amazing writing instruments, we believe we can bring happiness to people from all over the world. As I, myself, have gained happiness thanks to my fountain pens at different stages of my life.

As an inheritor

When I was at my 20s, Ihad been an amateur freelance writer with a passionate interest in handwriting and fountain pens. This interest was really a treasure I inherited from my grandfather who used to be a practitioner of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy (many young Japanese do not know about itnowadays)

As a collector

I still kept the hobby of writing and collecting fountain pens even after I moved to the West for study in 2000. I found out how lucky I was to be in Japan as it was not that hard to get a fountain pen or brush pen for calligraphy compared to in Europe and America. However, it was such a destiny as I could meet friends there who also share the same interest in writing instruments. It was somehow different in the way we think and practice calligraphy because of national identity; but my fountain pens really earned me good friends.

As a business man

After graduation, I came back to Japan and worked for a company which actually has no relation to my hobby but it never stopped my interest in writing and calligraphy.Before, writing, to me, wassome kind of habit, joy and experience.Life asa Japanese business manmade melearn about it with manners which link closely to mycareer.

As a dreamer

I took a chance to visit many corners in Asia for volunteering during 2007-2010 and it was a truly great experience when I could see writing with a totally different view. Far to the Northwest of Vietnam, for many children in Mai Chau or Sa pa, owning a good pen can make them more than happy. For many elderlies who live in remote villages of China, having a good brush pen to practice calligraphy becomes such a fancy wish of their whole life. It may bequite easy for of us to have writing as a daily hobby but for some, it is really a dream.

As a parent

I don’t tell my children to follow my interest in calligraphy but buying them a good pen and showing themwhat handwriting can bringis always a nice methodof education for me. A pen symbolizes imagination, creativity and passion.It is really fun to seechildren stretching out their imagination with a pen for the first time.Just that canmake a happy day for a parent.
