You\'re offerding on \"The Complete Poetical Works Of Percy Bysshe Shelley\", published by D. Lothrop & Co., Boston. No year indicated but this edition appears to be circa 1880s. Shelley, with only the possible exception of his similarly doomed friend & contemporary Lord Byron, is perhaps the pre-eminent figure of the English Romantic period, and this comprehensive edition of his poetry is a beautiful Victorian-period tribute to these works in terms of period style - The cover features an ornate black embossed stem-and-berry naturalistic design on light green boards, with gilt stamped titling on front board and spine, and a fantastic stamped raised graphic at center of a winged pegasus horse soaring against a crescent moon and starry sky. Illustrated throughout with several beautifully dramatic full-page plates. Page edges are gilded on three sides.
Book does have some condition issues - cover does exhibit some soil and spotting, most noticeable on the plain rear board. Also some slight cloth fray at top and bottom of spine and corner tips. Front endpaper has a gift inscription in pencil and a pasted-down James Whitcomb Riley poem, and there is a penciled-in bookseller or cataloging note inside the front cover on the pastedown. Pages do exhibit a little bit of age-browning (no brittleness) and an occasional dog-ear here and there, but overall they present cleanly, including the illustration plates. Binding is solid.
