Background: During WWII free Poles and military units having fled the German blitzkrieg organized originally into the 1st and 2nd Polish Corps with many other units later established. These forces fought with the Allies in numerous theatres of operation, but many units were established and based in Britain. The Polish government fled to the United Kingdom and operated there for the duration of WWII, where three sets of stamps and a single issue were released for the use of the Polish maritime forces, merchant marine and other branches of the Polish forces (on specified days). This lot offers the second set issued by the Polish Government in exile and the fascinating designs depict Polish Forces in action in the Battle of the Atlantic, France, Norway and Lybia, plus General Sikorski, the Polish resistance dismantling railway tracks, and a secret underground printing operation in Poland.

Reference and Condition: These were issued on November 1, 1943 as a set of eight stamps. This set is listed in the Michel 2011/12 Osteuropa catalogue as #s 368-75 with a value of 25€ or approximately $28.75. Only 200 000 complete sets are possible. Very-fine overall condition with fine to very-fine centering and full never-hinged original gum. Note one short perf on the 25gr stamp. Otherwise free of faults.
