I\'m delighted to present for your consideration this antique sheet music with lithograph that was composed after the Civil War which is found to be in good condition entitled \"Maj. Gen. Wool\'s Funeral March\" which was written for piano by T.J. Guy. The music was inscribed to the memory of Major General John E. Wool for his funeral. John Ellis Wool (1784-1869) was an officer in the U.S. Union Army during four consecutive U.S. wars which included the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), the Rogue River Indian War (1855-56), and the American Civil War (1861-1865). He was 85-years-old when he died, the oldest of the four generals in the army during the Civil War, and was widely considered one of the most capable officers.
Major General Wool well deserved this fitting tribute in his memory considering the many years of his dedicated service. The sheet music is a 1st edition that was copyrighted and published in 1869 by Cluett & Sons, 270 River Street, Troy, New York. The lithograph was done by Major & Knapp Eng. Mfg. & Litho.
