The President of The United States of America To all who shall see these Presents, Greeting: Know Ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the Patriotism,Valor, Fidelity, and abilities of Richard H. Somers, I do appoint him First Lieutanant in the Coast Artillery Corpsin the service of the United States: to rank as such from the Nineteenthday of July, Nineteen Hundred and Seven.he is therefore carefully and diligently to discharge the duty of First Lieutanant by doing and performing all manner of things thereunto belonging. And I Do Strictly charge and require all Officers and Soldiers under his command to be obedient to his orders as First Lieutanant , And he is to observe and follow such orders and directions, from time to time, as he shall receive from me, or the future President of The United States of America, or the General or other Superior Officers set over him, according to the rules and disipline of War. This Commission to continue in force during the pleasure of The President of The United States, for the time being , and until the end of the next session of the Senate. Given under my hand at the city of Washington, this Fifth day of August, in the year of our lord one thousand nine hundred and seven, and in the one hundred and thirty second year of the Independence of the United States. This document is also believed to be signed by Adjutant General Fred C. Ainsworth, Acting as the Secretary of War, Ainsworth was born in Woodstock Vermont on September 11th 1852. in 1874 he received his medical degree from the University of the City of New York. (now NYU) in 1874 Ainsworth Joined the Army Medical Corps as an assitant Surgeon. He served initally in Arkansas and the Southwest United States and was promoted to Surgeon with the rank of Captain in November 1879. In 1885 he was appointed recorder of the Army Medical Examining Board. His Talents as an administrator resulted in his 1886 appointment to chief of the Armys records and pension Division in the office of the Army Surgeon General. Ainsworth\'s success in reorganizing the records and pension division led to a promotion of Major in 1891. In 1892 he resigned his medical corps commission and was appointed a colonel with continued duty as head of the records and Pension office. He was promoted to Brigadier General in March 1899 and in 1904 he was promoted to Major General, with appointment as military secretary over a records and pension office that continued to grow as it took on duties formerly performed by the office of the Army\'s adjutant General. In 1907 Ainsworth was appointed Adjutant General, effectively taking on the rest of that office\'s responsibilities.We have been collecting and dealing in Rare Historical documents for over 35 Years and we only deal with reputable dealers.
