We are pleased to offer this beautiful and unusualprimitive,folk art, box,humidors, or smallchest. The box isconstructed of solid wood (heavy for its size).It is exceptionally detailed and features a carved, grid pattern with a carved flower inside each recessed, square grid. There are 33 flowers onthe box. The box also hasa carved, three dimensional horse head at each of the uppercorners. It hastwo, lift up doors on each topwith two sections (divided) ofinterior storage. It also has an ornate brass hasp lock and brass hinges. The box rests on 4 legs/feet.The box is painted in a beautiful red with antique glaze color with the flowers, horse heads and legs finished in gold leaf. The recessed areas around the flowers are a very dark stained wood. The paint is distressed. The box is not marked.It isquite stunning. Goodcondition withsome minor wear/scuffs on the feet and legs. There area couple of the horse heads that either show their connection joints at the necks or they have possibly been repaired at some point. A couple of the legs have visible nail heads (they are also in gold leaf so they do blend). This is not distracting. Unsure of exact age, but appears to be early 20th century and most definitely hand made. We have the matching box (purchased at the same sale), which isteal/turquoise and gold, available in a separate listing.
Thebox measures 16.25\" square and 12\" tall. The interior storage compartments (two) are 11\"wide,5.25\" front to back, and 8.5\" tall/deep.
